Rights and duties are correlative. Every right or duty involves a bond of obligation. Every legal system is made up of both rights and duties and for the smooth working of every country both rights and duty are essential, in the same light in our India also there are, fundamental rights and fundamental duties enumerated in the constitution. The fundamental duties are therefore intended to serve as a constant reminder to every citizen that while constitution specifically conferred on them certain fundamental rights.

Citizens should be ready to defend and render national service towards India. The spirits of common brotherhood and harmony have to be promoted by all the citizens wherein they need to transcend all forms of diversities pertaining to religion, language and region. All the practices that are derogatory to the dignity of women have to be renounced.
India has a rich, varied and composite culture and one needs to preserve it. Natural environment including the forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife are expected to be preserved by the citizens.
